The United Arab Emirates, or UAE for short, is a union of seven emirates located in the east of the Arabian Peninsula. The capital of the UAE is Abu Dhabi; other major cities include Dubai and Sharjah.

The state religion of the UAE is Islam. Arabic is the official language, and English is also widely spoken.

The country is a founding member of the Gulf Cooperation Council and a member state of the Arab League, the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OPEC, and the World Trade Organization. Since 2024, the UAE has been a BRICS member state.

The UAE has approximately 10 million inhabitants, of whom only about 10 percent are citizens.


With an average elevation of 149 meters, the United Arab Emirates ranks 143rd in the world. The lowest point is at sea level and the highest is at 1,905 meters.

  Personal information:
Feedback from many acquaintances about Dubai was either overwhelmingly positive or deeply negative. So I had to see for myself and stopped in Dubai for a few days in 2019 on my way to Bangkok.

The Burj Khalifa (the view from the top is incredible!), the U-shaped building, and many other architectural highlights are truly impressive. The sun seems to shine here almost 365 days a year, except when I arrive, as it was raining after my visit.

I enjoyed Dubai, but I wouldn't want to live there. However, I would gladly return for another visit.

In 2025 and 2026, we had a stopover in the capital, Abu Dhabi, but unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to explore the city...
