Official information: Austria is a landlocked Central European country and a democratic federal state, specifically a semi-presidential republic. The nine federal states of Austria are Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg, and Vienna. The name "Ostarrichi" (an Old High German form) dates back to 996. Austria is a member of the United Nations and the Council of Europe. It is also a founding member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), established in 1961, and has been a member of the European Union since 1995. With an average elevation of 910 meters, Austria ranks 36th in the world. The lowest point is 115 meters and the highest point is 3,798 meters. |

Personal information: Contrary to what the pictures here suggest, I have visited Austria, as a neighboring country, countless times, at least on 15 different years until 2025. Austria is always worth a visit, whether along the Danube, in the Wachau region, in Vienna, on Lake Neusiedl, on Lake Wörthersee, etc. In addition to the ski resorts, there are also many wine regions with delicious red and white wines. I would love to return to Austria! |
