Personal information: Bulgaria and the Black Sea had been on my list for a long time. Our neighbor is Bulgarian, and we've even tasted Bulgarian wines. So, in June 2025, we went to Albena, just north of Golden Sands, for 11 days. The Bulgarian lev, which is about half the price of a euro, was still available, but the prices still seemed a bit high. Probably due to the touristy location. We weren't looking for an individual cultural vacation, but more for relaxation. The Flamingo Grand Hotel was great, not far from the beach, with jet-skiing facilities and a large pool. We couldn't do without an excursion, so we first booked a jeep tour in old Russian jeeps. That was a lot of fun; unfortunately, a Frenchman was a spoilsport because he was afraid of water. Another tour took us to one of the longest capes in Europe, Cape Kaliakra, which is well worth seeing. The last bus tour took us to Nessebar, the town on Sunny Beach with its 40 churches, a must-see. This is truly a gem, even if the bus ride from Albena was very long. Bulgaria is definitely worth a trip. Finally, an experience about the Black Sea. According to the information, the water temperature was around 19 degrees Celsius (brrr), but it was actually much warmer. I've heard from many people that swallowing water at higher temperatures can lead to gastrointestinal problems. We were lucky! |
