  Official information:
Switzerland is a federal and democratic state in the heart of Europe, comprised of 26 semi-sovereign cantons. Switzerland is considered a highly unified nation whose national identity and cohesion are not based on a common language (of which there are four: German, French, Italian, and Romansh), ethnic origin, or religion. Rather, the belief in direct democracy, the high degree of local and regional autonomy, and other factors unite the country and its citizens.

Despite the sparsely populated Alps, Switzerland, with 217 inhabitants per square kilometer, is among the more densely populated countries in Europe!

Switzerland originated from the founding cantons of Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden, with its name derived from the canton of Schwyz.

With an average elevation of 1,350 meters, Switzerland ranks 17th in the world. Its lowest point is at 195 meters and its highest at 4,634 meters.

  Personal information:
Having lived in Konstanz (and Radolfzell) for many years and even worked in Switzerland (St. Gallen), my perspective on Switzerland is different from that of a holiday destination. Swiss German is a challenge for many, but if it's not too complicated, I understand it well.

Besides many pleasant people, there are also a few very arrogant and self-important individuals. I used to often bring up Switzerland's proximity to the USA, as both countries have in common: very low speed limits, but in return, a lot of high-powered cars on the roads, a high number of firearms in homes, etc.

Now to the country itself: the mountains, the landscapes with their many lakes (besides the two large ones, Lake Constance and Lake Geneva, there are a multitude of beautiful lakes) and green meadows, and numerous skiing paradises.

Whenever possible, I like to make a stop or stay in Switzerland, because it feels a bit like home...
