  Official information:
The Czech Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe with Prague as its capital. It comprises the historical regions of Bohemia (Čechy), Moravia (Morava), and parts of Silesia (Slezsko).

After the First World War, the democratic Czechoslovakia was founded in 1918. Later, under Nazi Germany, the Czech part of the country was occupied. After the end of the Second World War, the Red Army occupied most of Czechoslovakia, and the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia seized power following the so-called February Revolution.

The Prague Spring, an initial reform movement, was crushed by Warsaw Pact troops in 1968. Twenty-one years later, in 1989, President Václav Havel restored democracy as part of the Velvet Revolution. Czechoslovakia was peacefully divided into Slovakia and the Czech Republic in 1993. The latter has been a member of NATO since 1999 and a member of the EU since 2004.

With an average elevation of 433 meters, the Czech Republic ranks 87th. Its lowest point is at 115 meters and its highest at 1,602 meters.

  Personal information:
In 1988, as part of a school graduation trip, we went behind the Iron Curtain to Prague. Back then, it wasn't yet overrun with tourists, and we visited some of the highlights, such as the Charles Bridge, the Astronomical Clock, Prague Castle with the famous window depicting the Defenestration of Prague, and so on. We were young and enjoyed Prague and the Crimean sparkling wine in Wenceslas Square.

Then, in 2012, I was drawn back to Prague for a long weekend. Under plenty of sunshine, we enjoyed life on the Vltava River and much more. A new addition to our itinerary was the Dancing House in Prague, also known as Fred & Ginger, which is a real eye-catcher.

During a Baltic holiday, we stayed overnight in Prague on both the outward and return journeys, enjoying delicious food and the touristy atmosphere. And once again, I discovered something new: the "new" TV tower in Prague, which has sparked mixed reactions. I like it despite its odd shape!

Then, in 2012, I was drawn back to Prague for a long weekend. I really enjoyed the Czech Republic and Prague; if at all possible, I would love to stop there again!
