  Personal information:
I've visited Spain several times, with my first encounter being in 1994. Back then, very few people spoke English, and I had to get by with my three words of Spanish. I met my friend Gerson from El Salvador in Barcelona and then visited him in Tarragona, where he was staying with his Spanish girlfriend. After that, I traveled on to Malaga, in the far south, where the sun was shining brightly.

My Spanish teacher warned us about the prevalence of machismo. Later, I also read various articles in the press and experienced the icy coldness of two Spanish women I asked for directions, starting with "Hola Chicas." I must have seemed very Spanish at first, but after I continued speaking in Spanish, the coldness melted away and turned into friendliness.

After that, I visited Granada, Seville, Barcelona, and several other cities. Spain is a great country, even though my tires were slashed by gangs and my camera was stolen.

Spain is definitely worth a visit for its wine and cuisine.

I currently have no plans for another visit, but I will certainly return in the medium to long term!
