  Official information:
Estonia is the northernmost of the three Baltic states and borders Latvia to the south, Russia to the east, and the Baltic Sea to both the north and west. Finland is not far away and can be reached quickly by ferry, thus maintaining close ties with Finland.

Estonia was independent from 1918 to 1940 and has been a member of the United Nations since 1991 and of the EU since 2004. In 2011, Estonia adopted the euro and is part of the Eurozone.

Estonia's climate is cool-temperate to harshly cold, with frosty winters and only moderately warm summers. The average annual temperature in the capital, Tallinn, is 4.5°C (July averages 16.5°C, and January averages just -6.0°C). Despite the low winter temperatures, the coasts remain (mostly) ice-free.

With an average elevation of 61 meters, Estonia ranks 158th. The lowest point is 0 meters and the highest is 318 meters.

  Personal information:
I have to be completely open about that; I didn't see much of Estonia. Driving through the country from Latvia, without a motorway, I was never sure what the speed limit was at any given time. 90 outside of towns and 110 to 120 in the summer on selected roads (yes, which ones?).

Tallinn is a pretty city on the Baltic Sea. We wanted to take the hop-on/hop-off bus, but contrary to the maps and bus signs, the bus left a different route and less frequently, so we skipped it and explored most of the area on foot.

We were also lucky with the changeable weather and mostly sunny weather, except for the pouring rain on our departure...

Estonia has very nice people, and the support from Ukraine is clearly noticeable. It's quite a long way from Germany, and the cool weather isn't my favorite, so I don't think I'll visit Estonia again (but you never know).
