Official information: Georgia is a Eurasian country in the South Caucasus Mountains, located on the eastern Black Sea. The regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia are occupied by Russian forces and are therefore not under the control of the Georgian government. Georgia is roughly the size of Bavaria and boasts a peak, Mount Shkhara, which reaches 5,000 meters. The Caucasus Mountains protect Georgia from the cold winds blowing from Russia to the north, allowing the Black Sea to contribute some warmth to the country. With an average elevation of 1,432 meters, Georgia ranks 16th in the world. Its lowest point is at sea level, and its highest point is at 5,193 meters. |
