Personal information: In early summer 2022, I took the ferry from Brindisi (Italy) to Greece and then spent a short night in Athens. The Acropolis is a must; I set out to climb it at 35 degrees in the shade and discovered there was no shade at all. The rest of Athens didn't impress me as much; I found some parts of it run-down, and not far from the center, drug addicts sit on the streets and shoot up. After Athens, I went to the island of Corfu for a beach holiday. It's a beautiful island with a great beach and good restaurants. I found the people to be consistently friendly and polite. Just one example: On a public holiday, I hit a screw while parking and the air escaped from the tire. I found a tire shop that repaired the tire quickly and inexpensively just before closing time (6:00 p.m.). The mechanic also received the price as a tip. Well, my experiences have been consistently positive and I would love to travel to Greece again, to the land of the gods on Mount Olympus, who, with Odysseus, Sisyphus, Achilles, Eros, Hermes, Athena, etc., have significantly shaped today's Europe. |
