Official information: Liechtenstein is bordered by Switzerland and Austria in the Alpine region of Central Europe and, with its 160 square kilometers, is the sixth-smallest country in the world. Its capital and princely seat is Vaduz. The Principality of Liechtenstein was founded in 1719 and was an immediate territory of the Holy Roman Empire until 1806. In 1923, the country entered into a customs treaty with Switzerland and introduced the Swiss franc as its currency. Like Switzerland, Liechtenstein is a member of the United Nations (UN) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), but not of the European Union (EU); unlike Switzerland, Liechtenstein is part of the European Economic Area (EEA). With an average elevation of 1,115 meters, Liechtenstein ranks 27th. The lowest point is 430 meters and the highest point is 2,943 meters. |

Personal information: I've driven past Liechtenstein many times, but for a long time, I never had the time to stop there. Then in 2012, I combined a trip to Switzerland with a quick stop in Liechtenstein (I couldn't find the legendary plastic bag containing millions in undeclared money) and found Vaduz very appealing. Then in 2019, I returned there for work, unfortunately without the opportunity to sightsee or explore the cities and countryside. Since I have no professional, personal, or even emotional connection to Liechtenstein, there's no reason to visit again... |
