  Personal information:
It was probably Inspector Wallander in the novel "The Dogs of Riga" that first brought me to Latvia. In 2015, I took the opportunity and, instead of flying back to Germany from my work trip to England for the weekend, flew to Riga instead, using hotel points to stay at the Radisson.

Riga is the jewel of the Baltic capitals, beating out many other European capitals, and I was very impressed. In addition to the many sights and the variety of good restaurants and hotels, I was captivated by the friendliness of the people there. There were various festivals going on at that time: a music festival, a beer festival in the park, etc.

Unfortunately, nine years later in 2024 there wasn't enough time to pay a proper visit to Riga during my Baltic vacation. Instead, we went to Liepāja on the Baltic Sea beach, with a month-long bathing season in July. We were lucky in August; the sun was shining, the beach was full, and the water was quite cool at 19°C.

In my opinion, Latvia is the most beautiful of the three Baltic states.
