Official information: Monaco is located near Italy, but is a city-state, completely surrounded by France and the Mediterranean Sea. Monaco is a microstate and, after Vatican City, the second smallest country in the world. Its population density, at 18,831 inhabitants per square kilometer, is the highest of any country in the world (followed by Singapore and Bahrain). Neither Wikipedia nor Google provide Monaco's average elevation. One source gave it as 105 meters. With a lowest point of 0 (or -2) meters and a highest elevation of 164 meters, 105 seems a bit high. |

Personal information: Compared to Nice or other French cities on the Mediterranean, Monaco seems like a cobbled-over backwater to me. To break my Monaco abstinence, I visited the city once, and that's where I'm going! Honestly, why this place is so popular with millionaires remains a mystery. There's absolutely nothing here that draws me! Another mystery remains why the city-state's average altitude isn't available online. The 105 meters mentioned above seems too high to me, so here and now I'm setting the average altitude at 62 meters! |
