  Official information:
Norway is a country in Northern Europe. Norway has one of the largest areas in Europe, but with a population of approximately 5.5 million, it is sparsely populated. The majority of the population lives in the south of the country.

Norway's form of government is a parliamentary monarchy.

Norway achieved its independence, which it still maintains today, with the dissolution of the union with Sweden in 1905. Norway is a member of NATO, the Nordic Council, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the United Nations, among others. However, Norway is not a member of the European Union, but rather of the European Economic Area (EEA).

The United Nations has long ranked Norway as the world's most developed country (alongside Switzerland) based on its Human Development Index. Norway is one of the richest countries, with per capita gross domestic product ranking third in the world.

  Personal information:
We would have loved to travel along the Hurtigruten, turn day into night, and admire the Northern Lights, but unfortunately, neither time nor money allowed for that during our very short Norway vacation. We mainly visited friends in Brevik and then explored Oslo a bit. So, I didn't see much of Norway. And the planned snow skiing trip fell through because it was too warm in winter. Only on the return journey by car did it snow heavily. Vacation-wise, I can very well imagine coming back to Norway; I couldn't live here – it's all night in winter and daylight lasts too long in summer!
Alcohol prices in Norway are so high that Norwegians travel to Sweden, which is also not cheap, on weekends to stock up on cigarettes and beer.
