  Official information:
Russia, or more precisely, the Russian Federation, is a federal state in Eastern Europe and North Asia. It also includes the exclave of Kaliningrad between Lithuania and Poland. With approximately 17 million square kilometers, Russia is the largest country in the world. Despite ranking ninth in terms of population, Russia is one of the most sparsely populated countries.

After the capital, Moscow, St. Petersburg is the second most important center.

The Russian Federation is the "successor state" of the Soviet Union in international organizations. Corruption and human rights violations are widespread in Russia. Although Russia is still considered an autocracy (just as the USA is still considered a democracy), there is considerable debate among scholars as to whether Russia has transitioned into a totalitarian dictatorship or even a fascist regime.

With an average elevation of 600 meters, Russia ranks 60th. The lowest point is -28 meters, and the highest is 5,642 meters.

  Personal information:
At the moment, and probably for the next few years, nothing would get me to Russia, so I'm glad I was at least able to visit the formerly western-oriented Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad). At the end of September/beginning of October, the weather wasn't all that bad for the northern region.

Aside from the scam taxi drivers (we downloaded the app in cooperation with Uber right afterward), it was very impressive: The Gazprom Tower, the tallest tower in Europe, rises into the sky like a rocket (unfortunately, it wasn't open to tourists at the time), Peterhof Palace is truly a magnificent building, the new football stadium on the Neva River, the Hermitage Museum, the Church of the Resurrection, fantastic both inside and out, etc.

And if you're a James Bond fan like me, you absolutely have to visit the museum with the Faberge eggs.

I was a bit apprehensive about the food at first, but we had fantastic meals and were tempted by the culinary delights.
