  Official information:
Slovakia is a landlocked country, meaning it has no access to the sea, located in Central Europe. Bratislava (German: Pressburg) is the capital and largest city, situated just a few kilometers from the border with Austria.

The country is largely mountainous and encompasses a significant portion of the Carpathian Mountains.

The territory of present-day Slovakia was settled by Slavs at the turn of the 5th and 6th centuries. When the Austro-Hungarian Empire dissolved in 1918, Slovakia became part of the newly formed Czechoslovakia. In a rare event in international politics, the independent Slovak Republic was established on January 1, 1993, following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia, as a nation-state for the Slovak people.

Slovakia has been a member of the European Union (EU) and NATO since 2004. Following this, border controls with EU countries were lifted in accordance with the Schengen Agreement (2007) and shortly afterwards (2009) Slovakia joined the Eurozone.

With an average elevation of 458 meters, Slovakia ranks 80th. Its lowest point is at 0 meters and its highest at 2,655 meters.

  Personal information:
Unimaginable today, but there was a time at SAP when employees could actually attend on-site training! I did just that and arrived the day before, with the opportunity to visit the former Bratislava (Pressburg).

Of course, the city can't compete with Budapest, Berlin, Paris, London, etc.! But it's a charming city with many memorable sights and very friendly people! At least, I always met friendly people.

If the opportunity arises, I'd gladly stop here again!
