Official information: The Kingdom of Sweden is a parliamentary monarchy in Scandinavia. Sweden is a member of the Nordic Council and, since 1995, of the European Union. Since 2024 (driven by Russian aggression), it has also been a member of NATO. Even though other sources deny a direct land connection to Denmark, I consider the opening of the Øresund Bridge in 2000 to be an existing and direct land connection to Denmark! Note: Sweden has 267,570 islands! The land border with Norway is 1,619 km long, and with Finland, it is 586 km. With an average elevation of 320 meters, Sweden ranks 112th in the world. Its lowest point is at -2 meters and its highest at 2,100 meters. |

Personal information: I have rather ambivalent feelings about Sweden! Shortly before the pandemic shut everything down, I was in Gothenburg for work and enjoyed the city and its fantastic restaurants. At the end of 2022, on the way back from Norway, just before the Danish border, our car windows were smashed in a brightly lit, camera-monitored rest stop parking lot, right in our line of sight. My camera and my wife's handbag were stolen. The whole ordeal—driving with broken windows in sub-zero temperatures and a small child in the back seat to Copenhagen (where Mercedes Copenhagen was very helpful) and then back home—was a nightmare. We never heard from the police and were left to bear the costs ourselves. Although I was in the area again for work afterward, I already knew I wouldn't be taking on the difficult project and was therefore able to enjoy my stay. Precisely because of that robbery, Sweden is on my blacklist! |
