Official information: The Republic of Kosovo is located in the Balkans, in southeastern Europe. Kosovo is not universally recognized and is therefore considered a de facto state. From 1992, Kosovo was part of the newly formed Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and from 2003, a constituent region of Serbia. Recent history is marked by the Kosovo War of 1999 and its aftermath. The country's current international legal status is disputed. In 2008, the parliament declared the territory's independence, and 118 of the 193 member states of the United Nations recognize the Republic of Kosovo as an independent state. Kosovo has been a member of the International Monetary Fund since 2009 and is a member of the World Bank Group. With an average elevation of approximately 822 meters, Kosovo would rank between 39th and 40th in terms of altitude, but it is not listed on Wikipedia. Its lowest point is at 297 meters and its highest at 2,658 meters. |
