Official information: The Republic of South Africa is a country in southern Africa and is among the most economically developed regions on the African continent. There are apparently three cities that can be considered capitals: Pretoria, the seat of government; Cape Town, the parliament; and Bloemfontein, the Supreme Court of Appeal. However, I will refer to Cape Town as the capital, following the official designation within Germany. South Africa is the only African country to be a member of the G20 economic powerhouses and is considered one of the BRICS nations. With an average elevation of 1,034 meters, South Africa ranks 31st in the world. Its lowest point is at sea level and its highest at 3,450 meters. |

Personal information: The Cape of Good Hope is still vividly etched in my memory from school ages ago. And it's a real highlight there. With recommendations and tips from a former neighbor, I finally made it to South Africa. Cape Town struck me as a charming little capital city, where I was able to drive without a GPS after just two days. I really enjoyed Table Mountain, Cape Town's city center, the Cape of Good Hope, and the other capes I visited by car. The wines in the wine region were fantastic, cage diving with sharks, the whale watching tour, Route 62 over the Swartberg Pass with dust races with locals, the wildlife near and within Kruger National Park, and much more remain unforgettable. I might even visit South Africa again! |
